GAHK was formed by a group of FGA in Hongkong in l979, with major objective to promote gemmology to the public and to the trade, seeing that Hongkong was getting to play very important role in the World gemstone trading yet at that time, business were done purely on experiences of individuals and gemmology were rarely talked about.

The GAHK produces an annual journal with articles from renowned gemmologists both in the region and from around the world. If you would like to read articles from our journals please click on "Education".

The founding chairman was Dr. David Healey, professor of Dept. of Physics in Hongkong University.

An SME Development fund was granted to the GAHK to develop an Accredited Gemmological Certification and Label Scheme for diamonds and jadeite.
